16U PIRATES 2023 SEASON REVIEW


The Wellington City Pirates are thrilled to celebrate the success of our Brendon Motors Karori 16U team this season! Each player demonstrated their skills and dedication, resulting in a remarkable record of 5 wins and 5 losses. 

We want to extend our gratitude to the parents, players, coaches, and administrators for contributing to another strong and successful season for the Wellington City Pirates 16U team!

CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

The Brendon Motors Karori 16U team had an outstanding season, highlighted by their first-ever Championship Title in the club's history. After finishing the season tied for 3rd, they defeated the top team in the semi-finals before securing the championship title against Central.

The team was led by the MVP Zak Broadway, who also made significant contributions to the team's pitching with 6 starts and 4 wins. Ben Willocks earned the Silver Slugger award with his impressive batting performance, while Jayden Cox was awarded the Golden Glove for his exceptional work on the field. Duncan McGarry received the Cy Young award for his valuable contributions as a pitcher, and Gus Le Quesne was recognized with the Most Improved award for his progress throughout the season.

KEY STATS

Looking at some key stats, the 16s  had an impressive .343 batting average and .981 fielding percentage for the season. The team's pitching staff faced 199 batters and issued 40 walks while recording 57 strikeouts. Out of the 122 hits allowed, only 60 made it on base for the season as 62 were either grounded out or flyouts. Our team's strong defense played a major role in their success, with players consistently making spectacular plays to get outs and prevent runs from scoring.

TEAM CHARACTER

What truly made this season special was the team's character and resilience, demonstrated through their determination and hard work on and off the field. The players displayed great sportsmanship, supporting each other through both wins and losses and representing the Pirates Club with class and professionalism.

FAMILY SUPPORT

We would like to express our gratitude to the friends and family of our team for their unwavering support throughout the season. Your encouragement and enthusiasm were instrumental in the team's success, and our club is thankful for your continued support.

We also extend a special thanks to those who volunteered their time each week, including the coaching staff, scorers, umpires, and grounds crew. We could not have had a season without you.
