13U PIRATES 2023 SEASON REVIEW

Our Lowe & Co Under-13 Pirates team continued building on our 2020 – 2021 effort, with Coaches Joe and Regan leading the squad this year.

This season we retained a strong core of returning players in our 13U team. We also welcomed several new team members, including Ruby – the first girl to wear the Wellington City Pirates black and gold! Ruby joined us after playing in our Term 4 Development League, showing the value of our club’s development and competitive streams.

Thanks to Patricia (our Baseball Auntie) and our 'Mars Rover' pitching machine, our 13s developed into a strong hitting team. Coach Joe ran a summer hitting and throwing programme and several of our players doubled their batting averages in the second half of the season.

PIRATES REPRESENT!

One of the most exciting parts of our season was how well the Wellington City Pirates have been represented at the Wellington regional and national select teams. Special congratulations to Cooper Taouma, Jake Charity, and Ewan McGarry for being selected to represent Wellington at the 13U national tournament, and to Fred Faafoi-Rogers and Kieran McMahon for being selected for the 12U select team. Kieran has also been selected in the Baseball New Zealand U-12 Team to compete at the 2023 World Baseball Softball Confederation U-12 World Cup in Chinese Taipei this July. Congratulations Pirates!

HEADING INTO THE OFF-SEASON

To our nine 13U players who are moving up to the 16U competition next season - good luck! To our returning players, enjoy your winter break.

Keep your eyes open for our ‘Seeds and Dingers’ offseason programme. It’ll be a great opportunity to keep growing as players and invite your friends to play as well. Encourage them to join the Pirates next summer, so they can put on the black and gold and join another exciting season of baseball.
